Is it free to book?
Yes. There are no booking fees. You pay the garage its listed price on the day, after the test.
How much does an MOT cost?
Each garage sets its own price. By law it can't be more than £54.85 for a car. Most garages on our site charge less.
How early can I get my MOT done?
Up to a month minus a day before your current MOT expires, and you keep the same renewal date. Our free vehicle check tells you the exact date.
How long does the MOT take?
About 45 to 60 minutes. You can usually wait at the garage or drop the car off.
What happens if my car fails?
The garage explains each item and quotes before doing any work. Many offer a free partial retest if they do the repairs within 10 working days.
Can I drive my car if it fails?
Not if it has a dangerous defect. With a major defect you can only drive it if your old MOT is still valid and the car is roadworthy.
How are garages checked?
Every garage gives us its DVSA test centre number before it can take bookings. The Verified badge means we've confirmed it's an approved MOT centre.
Can I change or cancel my booking?
Yes. Call the garage on the number in your confirmation email.
Can I book an MOT for an imported car?
Yes. Once a car is UK-registered it's tested exactly like any other car.
What is the AI MOT readiness report?
